VARENNES QUARRY
The Varennes quarry is located on Pavages Varennes’ site, at the eastern limit of Varennes, in the La Jemmerais M.R.C.
The quarry’s sedimentary rocks consist of nephelite syenite, a stable plutonic rock that is highly resistant to physical agents. These rocks date back to the Monteregian Tertiary age and are supported by a shale formation (Bécancour formation) or a calcareous shale formation (Pontgravé formation).
Superficial deposits that cover the rocks contain sand, gravel, till and clay.
