Recycling routes may soon become a solution to counter the high price of oil in the asphalt industry.
Teh oil enters the composition of asphalt used to manufacture asphalt. Re-using asphalt represents a solution that would likely reduce spending.
This solution makes the happiness of BAUVAL Group, a company located in Boucherville specializing in road rehabilitation whose clients, public or private sectors, looking to save money.
« We feel a trend among our customers ask us if we can not recycle to reduce costs », says company president, Luc Lachapelle.
Several clients of the firm in the industrial and commercial sectors wish for example, paving a marshalling yard or a shopping center parking lot.
According to Mr. Lachapelle, these clients had previously used to prefer the new rather than recycled asphalt. ''Today they tell us:'' can we do as good in recycled? ''We tend to say yes'', says Mr. Lachapelle.
The asphalt can be recovered and then processed in a factory with some new materials. Some techniques can also recycle the asphalt on the construction sites.
Quebec municipalities and the Ministry of Transport are also interested in the recycling option, according to Claude Blais, president of Bitume Quebec and owner of the Talon-Sebeq company specializing in recycling of asphalt.
With cost of asphalting up nearly 30% last year, Mr. Blais expects a craze for recycling projects. His company, he said, has besides recently submitted a bid for a project of the Ministry of Transport of Quebec that included recycling of asphalt.
